Pilates is a form of exercise devised by Joseph Pilates who was born in Germany in 1880. His gentle exercises were shown to improve people’s health and fitness.
Joe Pilates believed that by concentrating on precision of movement, awareness of breath control and movement that flowed, movements of abnormal patterns could be altered which would then carry over into normal function.
Pilates consists of gentle non impact exercises that work on increasing your core strength, flexibility and balance whilst allowing you to work at your own level. Pilates exercises have been found to be useful in managing back and neck problems as well as improving posture and strength. Classes involve both mat work and exercise in standing to help improve function.
The Classes are run by a highly specialist instructor who specialises in Pilates.
Courses are run in six week blocks with up to ten in each class.
"I went to see Catherine a week after I was turned away by the hospital with a severe pain in my right arm which got worse over a period of 2/3 weeks. As there was no restriction of movement in my arm, I was told not to worry about it. Catherine was recommended to me by a colleague, she diagnosed a problem in my back which surprised me but, I agreed to start treatment immediately as she felt that I had an “acute” condition. It wasn’t until she started the treatment that I realised just how bad I was and I cannot thank her enough for the help and support she has given me over the past few weeks. Her knowledge, experience and methods are excellent."
